Blue crab project

EGCO Group’s Khanom Power Plant and the Nakhon Si Thammarat Aquaculture Genetic Research and Development Center joined forces to increase the number of blue crabs in the sea. Blue crabs are important to the marine ecosystem and the Thai economy. The project aims to raise public awareness of the need for marine resource conservation. A larger blue crab population will also promote a sustainable coastal fishery industry.

Mr. Taweerat Boonkwan, Senior Deputy District Chief, Khanom District, co-chaired the opening ceremony of the first Blue Crab Releasing Activity in 2021 along with the Director of the Aquaculture Genetic Research and Development Center. Witnessing the opening ceremony and releasing blue crabs are the Mayor of Ao Khanom District, the Chief of Tambon Kuan Thong Administration, the Mayor of Thong Nian District Municipality, the Mayor of Khanom District Municipality, the Deputy Chief of Khanom District Police, Chief of Marine Police 4, the President of Khanom Fishery Association, heads of local government agencies, representatives from private sector, business owners, Khanom residents and Khanom Power Plant’s management and executives.
